Fraito Lugo continues to walk away from the rest of the field with a monster 15 point lead after 11 races. Tied in second place we have Alec Anderson and Robby Hirst. Then one point behind them, and still very much in the picture, is Team B Mobile headed up by Colin Rathbun.
It made a big difference having slightly less wind with crews being able to focus on tactics rather than survival. The course heavily favoured the left and each race was won or lost short tacking up the coast right next to the main road. The umpires were kept busy policing the action at very close quarters. Crews could opt for clear air offshore but they encountered larger waves and a stronger current driven by the persistent trade winds.
The big battle today will be for second place unless Fraito has a meltdown. He will surely be sailing conservatively knowing that there are no discards available. Alec Anderson has an important advantage over Robbie Hirst having 3 bullets in his tally with Robbie yet to win a race. It should be interesting.
